The discovery of a diary, written in 1848 in Texas, which inspires the decision that Miranda Sámano takes to travel illegally to a foreign land in search of her roots and origin after deciphering the anonymous writings of her ancestor, Doña Amalia Sámano in this very diary. The amorous relationship which Miranda and Matt have in Texas, seams to parallel and appear to be a continuation of the relationship that Doña Amalia and Colonel of the US Army, Robert Crossman, had almost 160 years ago; these relationships also serve as a metaphor between the relationship which Mexico and the United States have sustained along their history.
